Built Ford Tough
On to our story.......
We came to Texas in a 1965 El Camino, my husband,
me,his dog Alice, and our 4 year old son Ricky.
That was April 1, 1982.
We kept that car until around 1997. My dad took it to Michigan,
where it came from, then sold it. I think it is living
out it's retirement in Florida.

We have owned lots of cars, but our first Ford was a 1992
Ranger Extended Cab. It was nice, but turned out to be a
lemon. I had constant problems with it and the last time
I took it in, it failed every compression test they ran. The
dealership acknowledged the problem and helped me get
into a Calypso Green 1993 Ranger. It was in the fall of '92,
right after the new body came out and I bought a dealers
demo truck. I love that truck, I still have it and drive it to
keep the 04 Mystic in the garage. At 185,000 miles or so
my son and husband put in a new crate engine. It is at
245,000 miles and going strong.

In late 1995 we wanted to get my husband a newer car.
We bought a used 1995 Black Mustang GT. It was a beauty.

We kept it just until the first oil change, we drove by the
dealership showroom and saw the 1996 Mystic Cobra for the
first time. My husband said it was "*&$#@ beautiful",
it was love at first sight (I'm used to it, I always
rank below the car and the dog). The dealership let us
take it home for the weekend, sure we would keep it. We drove
all over Fort Worth, cruised the Stockyards, turning heads
everywhere. Then we took it back and told them
to knock off some money or we weren't keeping it.
They did, so we did.

I drove my 1993 Ranger that I bought new in 1993 daily until
2003, when I bought this 1999 Electric Green Cobra
from a dealership in Houston, TX.

One Saturday in November (2004) we were going to eat dinner when we got a call from our youngest son Ryan. He works the parts counter now at the same dealership where we bought the 1996 Mystic. He said he saw a 2004 Mystichrome Cobra at a Dallas Car Dealership's website. He verified it was still there so we drove east to have a look, and of course brought the new Mystic home.

The Cobras are pretty much stock, the 1996 has a
K&N Filter and caster-camber plates.
The 2004 has a Steeda Tri-Ax short throw shifter and a
K&N FIPK. That's it.

Though this website calls every Color Shifting Cobra a "Mystic",
there are 2 different colors. The 1996 Cobra on the left is the true Mystic.
Mystic paint contains color-shifting interference
pigments, called ChromaFlair® pigments. These pigments were
developed and are manufactured by Flex Products, Inc. Traditional paints exhibit color by absorbing
most of the light, and reflecting only the light within a
narrow color band. ChromaFlair® pigments create color by light
interference. There is almost no absorption of light at all.
This makes the car have a wide variety of colors including
emerald green, violet blue, magenta, burgundy, amber, and
a dark brown.
The 2004 Cobra, on the right is the Mystichrome.
The Mystichrome Cobra not only has color shifting
pigment, it also has aluminum flakes, that the
original Mystic does not. The Special Vehicle Team worked with Alan Eggly, Ford's
color and trim director for North America, to develop
the Mystichrome paint and leather. Both the exterior and
interior treatments utilize ChromaFlair® light interference
pigments, from Flex Products, Inc. in Santa Rosa, California.
These tiny particles (each an average size of 17 microns)
are comprised of five layers of colorless film. Combined,
these layers produce shimmering, vibrant colors.
Eggly challenged DuPont to create a new color-shifting
paint with visual performance to match the visceral performance
of the 390-horsepower SVT Mustang Cobra. To that end,
DuPont staff chemists started with Green/Purple ChromaFlair
pigments that shift from bright green through a range
of blues, and then into purple. The DuPont chemists blended
that with traditional black and green pigments for visual
balance and deep, rich colors. As a finishing touch, they
added a pinch of aluminum flakes to enhance bright, metallic
sparkle.

On July 28, 2005 I drove Mystichrome Cobra out to Dallas Mustang for my birthday ( a day late, but still for my birthday) to have it dyno'd. I was afraid I'd have a little wimpy car, since I do baby it. But I was pleased to find out that it wasn't! My sweet baby car pulled 401.65 on the first pull!!

We don't race our cars. Although I'd like to try open track racing. I live 3 miles from Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, Texas. I like to take the cars to car shows. My husband comes along sometimes. He just loves his car, he's not into all the other stuff. But I like car shows and like to show it off and talk about it. I win sometimes. In September we drove to Ennis Tx for Fun Ford Weekend. I entered my '04 in the car show, there were 2 other Mystichromes!! Both were pretty blinged out, lots of chrome, and upgrades and both convertibles. But I won a plaque for "Manufacturer's Choice". That was so fun.

I took this for the hunt, but really liked this big old Live Oak tree
in Acton Cemetery. Located in Acton, Texas this old cemetery is
home to the smallest state park in Texas. It is where
Davey Crockett's wife Elizabeth is buried. There is a monument
and a wrought iron fence around her burial site and that is the park.
